Purim: Unmasked

Israel is alive with the Purim vibe.  Parties, dancing,  costumes. Just one click over to breaking news can shatter any feelings of joy.

The irony of celebrating the victory over one man’s attempt to annihilate the Jewish people precisely when another is doing his best to annihilate Ukraine is not lost.

Queen Esther in the Purim story is a role model for all women. She left us a timeless letter of hope in the Megillah, a story about going through the darkest of times without giving up faith.

Purim is a holiday of masks and masquerades. With all that is going on in the world today, it is obvious that we too are living in a masked world, one in which HaShem’s hand is hidden.

The Purim Story teaches us that things can turn around from one moment to the next. The Jews of Persia were saved miraculously. Let’s pray that history repeats itself, and with a blink of an eye the people of the world can live in peace!

Chag Sameach & Shabbat Shalom
