Just Do It

What do Avraham and Nike have in common? A very powerful message: Just Do It.

This week’s Torah portion begins with G-d instructing Avraham “Lech lecha," (or, "go for yourself") which our Rabbis explain is to go on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth.

Meaningful growth entails rising above the challenge, and at times leaving our comfort zone

It could not have been easy for Avraham to leave his home, and begin a journey to an unknown destination.

There are times when we have to live our own Lech lecha – “Just do it” – for ourselves, for our own family, and for the Jewish people.

This past week in Israel was Yom Aliya, on which thousands of Olim (immigrants to Israel) celebrated their journey. One way or another, we all have left our comfort zones, loved ones, and friends. Boy have I been on a journey of self-discovery and growth! I have had to redefine my comfort zone.

Perhaps there is room for all of us to individually reflect over Shabbat on how we can redefine our own comfort zone and “just do it" -- for ourselves, our family, and our nation.

Shabbat shalom
